I managed a new Lotus pb in quali' & secured 2nd on the grid in the middle of an Eagle sandwich behind the flying Gyula & ahead of Natan.
I got an OK start, lost a little ground to Gyula & had Natan snapping at my heels. Gyula went into the armco at Les Combes & I was able to come alongside on the exit, but the Eagle was quick & I dropped in behind through the kink & then showed the nose into Burnenville. I had chosen a tighter line than Gyula & so when he put a wheel on the dirt at the outside of the track & spun, I was able to avoid him & take the lead. Natan was able to use the Eagle power to pass me down the straight to Masta, but I got a better exit from Le Carriere & was able to re-take the lead before Blanchimont & I crossed the S/F line at the end of lap1 in the lead.
I was making alot of little mistakes, but held the lead until eventually I made one big enough for Natan & Clive to sail past when I spun at La Source. I chased them round the next lap & tried to settle in for the distance. On lap 3, as we entered Le Carriere, I saw Clive get a bit sideways & I thought he was going off, but it was me that spun instead rofl. I avoided the houses & so carried on with an undamaged car until I got Eau Rouge completely wrong the next time around, bottomed out & crashed heavily. Reset.
AndyL was behind me now, but I knew the Lotus would win out where it counted & I managed to pull out a small gap over the next lap, but then I spun again at Le Carriere & again avoided those houses Shocked so I chased after him again. At La Source, Andy went into the haybales & I think there may have been a warp contact under braking, although I felt nothing, judging by the way he went off. Sorry if there was, Andy.
Eau Rouge, lap 6... wrong, wrong, wrong 'tard! Great 'save' though Hammer AndyL is back past & I chase him for the next lap until he goes off into the hay again at La Source (no contact this time Wink) & I give chase to Mr. Aitken's Lotus.
And that was my race as when I turned in for Masta, the pc crashed Angry Cry
I was worried that we had had a power failure & that the server had gone down too, but fortunately (for you lot Wink) it was only me
Grats to the podium & all the finishers
Another good result for me since I stopped racing other sims. Again, I wasn't all that quick but I kept it on the grey bits. I was a bit disappointed to still be in the 22s-23s despite having the Lotus. Might just as well have taken the Honda.
Start was OK and I managed to pass one Ferrari before Eau Rouge (Dan, I think). Then I picked up a couple of places when others spun off and after half the race I was running in what looked like a relatively safe 3rd. Clive and Andy Aitken were closing in slowly but I figured even if they caught me they would have to pass as well, and I can drive defensively (Trulli-style) when I want to if I think I have a reasonable chance.
Unfortunately I blew an engine just getting on to the Masta straight, that's where you don't want to blow engines, it takes forever to get going again. And full tanks... doh. Clive sailed by and disappeared into the distance, and Andy was gaining too. We had a couple of good laps until I think he lost it at the Masta Kink, I didn't really see what happened. After that it was just a matter of staying on track until the end and I'm very pleased with 4th.
It was good to see a decent grid. Thanks to Roo for hosting and grats to Gyula/Natan/Clive.
No problems, Roo.
We didn't touch. I had a number of consecutive laps where I spun or hit the haybales at La Source all on my own. It took me most of the the race to even get a clean lap in.
I had an amazing escape going though Masta unscathed as two crashed and spun across me and again as Roo says out of Eau Rouge as he spun and caught it and I had just enough room to get through.
I had better consistency in the last 5 laps but I was nowhere by then.
I quite like these long races but this was not a good one for me.
Grats all finishers.
