Mark Barresi won Assen TT race of Festival Events | Jul 12, 2012
Starting from position 1 on the grid, Mark Barresi's Ferrari 166 crossed the line ahead of Alex Barresi's Ferrari 166 to take the win. Roo Mellor rounded out the top three in a Lotus 48, while fastest race lap was set by Mark Barresi also.
For those who have driven on this track, you can see the graphics aren't too good. Although it's a really great track. I found some very interesting video's from the 1955 (opening of this layout) until 2001 (big shortening of the track) which I like to show you:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Kv-vnrF3yc a few laps in 1999, when the track already lost the upper 1,5 kilometer section of the Noordlus (north loop, yes something like Nordschleife:P)

The 1955 layout where we drive on.
From the start: full throttle through de S bocht (bocht means corner in Dutch), then a lefthand bend until a slight hairpin at the Bedeldijk (dijk means road here, as it was a public road, and still is today) and then you hit the throttle again until the Stroomdrift lefthander. Now you have to go through some left-right combinations (hard ones are Madijk and Ossebroeken) until the Strubben hairpin. Fullspeed again through Veenslang and Ruskenhoek and you'll see the Stekkenwal rightander. A slight kink before the De Bult lefthander, two righthanders (Mandeveen/Duikersloot) and almost full throttle to s/f. There you have it, a lap around the old 'Cathedral' at Assen.
just did a lap in 2:42:81. Come on Marco, if I can do it you sure can do it under 2:45
Thanks for the links Arjen!
almost forgot about this one, the complete history of the TT, from the first race between four towns until now. Note that the track is offcially called Circuit van Drenthe (Circuit of Drenthe, the province where it lies in) and the race is called Assen Tourist Trophy, Assen being the nearest big town

2.41.29 for me now.
2:41:94 here, Brabham
Marco de Vries
I will host a training session before the event at 7pm UK time.
do you feel threatened or something?
I feel like someone who never rolled a meter on the track :D
2:41:68, getting better...
now you know how I feel on new tracks
but no training session then...
you must be one of the last absolutist monarchs
what are your lap times?
server is up! Good luck guys
Pedro van den Berg
Congratulations Mark, Alex and Roo!
Thanks Marco for making this race so interesting ;)
It has been a real joy to drive here in these little cars.
With a 2.36:58 also very happy.
Not so happy with race result, but who cares......it was fun fun fun!!!
Thanks again Jani for organistie and hosting, and thanks all for racing.
ps: Norisring and GT-Porsche would be great to , I think.
Cu, greetings Pedro.
adobe updates said: fuck you. Then I spun off of what could become a great race. I was just steaming up, slowly coming towards Jani and Sid. That, on my favourite track. What a sad day. I won't be there the next four races, holiday. Have fun and blast that grumpy Hungarian off the track!
nah wait, not worthly for the excuses. Actually it went like this. I was going so fast! And if I passed you guys you could feel depressive. So I wouldn't pass you anyway. Al-Qaeda saw how fast I was and they thought: let's get that car and race to Washington. But I fought them off (you guys couldn't see that) and then they planted a bomb under the chassis and well that's why I exploded out of the Strubben hairpin.
I felt a bit like an odd one out as I had actually practiced for this event! Its one of the first addon tracks I ever downloaded & I had been trying for years to get Pete to include it in one of our GBGPL seasons. He never did but now I get to race on it :)
I find it a really challenging track where getting a good lap together is very satisfying because there are so many corners where you can throw it off into the walls.
I struggled to put a lap together in quali' but finally put a 2:39 on the board for 3rd place behind the flying Italians nearly 3 secs up the road :O
I managed to get off the line ok despite not being able to see the start flag (is there a fix for this?) & tried to hang onto the leaders. I was amazed to set a pb on lap 2, & again on lap 3 - where did that come from!? I kept pumping in the 38's & kept the leaders in sight right up until I tried a little too hard into Ossenbroeken & spun into the wall around half distance. Recovered quickly but the next lap the engine died coming out of the nasty lefthander at De Bult so I had to shift-r but I had enough of a gap to keep position.
The remainder of the race was about not making any more mistakes & keeping the gap to Marco. I even managed a last lap push for a 2:37 :)
Great to race on this track despite it being quite lonely. Grats to the Barresi & everyone else who managed to tame this track.
let's start an Assen lobby for next season :D Glad you enjoyed it! Maybe I'm going to the (very shortened) track next year:D
I really enjoyed the track. Though I might tried it 8-9 years ago, I had no any serious experience previously.
During the training and qualifying I struggled with technical problems, used up 4 or 5 engines... But I could creat a safe setup for the race so later I had no worries with the engine (at least). Start went well, followed Pedro for a few laps and it seemed to be a great race ahead.
But soon I started to make mistakes - span in every 3-4 laps... So instead of a battle for 5th or 4th it became a struggle to keep 6th... Had a couple of laps with Sid, and finally finished 6th, where I started. Though I still don't know why are we one lap down to leader... The graph says we retired in the last lap. Strange.
Congrats to the winner, podium and all finishers!
Sid, were you driving Lola BMW or Lola FVA? (GPLRA still can't handle the mod, and I forgot to save a screenshot from the entry list.....)
Lola FVA Jani
As usual no preperation took place. It was a case of installing the track, choosing a Silverstone setup and away I went. Couldn't do more than 3 or 4 laps without disappearing into the scenery but it was still fun, especially the several laps with Jani in close attendance, sometimes in front, sometimes behind.
67F2's are definitely a winner as far as I'm concerned.
Marco de Vries
That was a nice race, although I was a bit shocked by the speed of the Baressi's. The start was good enough to stay in front of Pedro. Till lap 7, he was right behind me, and he passed me @ Bedeldijk when I nearly spun. But he spun too, so I was in front again. Roo blew his engine so I was quite close to him again, but Pedro was already in my mirrors. This time he made another mistake so he was far back. I cruised to 4th place, with the fast Pedro only 0,3 sec behind. Nice race!
