Track: Zandvoort Mod: 1967 FPS: 60 Number of racers: 15
Mark Barresi won Zandvoort race of Groundhog Season | Sep 20, 2012
Starting from position 2 on the grid, Mark Barresi's Lotus 49 crossed the line ahead of Alex Barresi's Brabham BT24 to take the win. Jani Posta rounded out the top three in a Brabham BT24, while fastest race lap was set by Lorenzo Melli.
Being the Kyalami winner I have to put down the Ferrari, so it will be a Brabham or a Lotus for me.
Can't make Zandvoort but racing at Spa on the 27th.
(Carlos has now retired... :)
about Spa: CanAm is incredibly fast. Why not change the Spa race to CanAm instead? I tested the McLaren 8F on it and it really works!
Spa is in Belgium not in North America ;)
if Champ Car can visit Assen, CanAm can visit Spa-Francorchamps
Arjen, no change in the calendar.
“Update time: Zandvoort 1967, Brabham time 1:25.362“
Why am I still competing here...
Do you need the setup/replay?
I hope to make it and be of the pack. Not sure yet. Cooper to me, if possible. CY on track hopefully
An all new section (Server crash) was inserted into the Rules.
How in the hell can we practice for Zandy when the new Can-Am mod is out.........:)
Will, if you wan't to race the CanAm's join gplracer tonight 20:30 cet on igor, chatroom #gplracer, no password. Funrace at Monza it is, 35 minutes race, thats around 27 laps.
I had a good run on qualy, P3 was absolutely for my taste. Though later it turned to be bad luck as Gabor was left sitting on pole position at the start. I could hardly avoid him, and lost places to Alex and Frank. Lorenzo and Will might have been also effected by Gabor's stall as I had Pedro in my back right at T1.
First half of the races was about reading the serial number from Frank's gearbox while trying to find a way through. He was slower on a lap, but the Lotus power always helped him to build a gap in the s/f straight.
Finally I could pass him but right from the next lap I had a serious problem behind - Lorenzo. That Cooper must have had something in the fuel as he was way too fast for my liking. And Lore's 2nd attempt in the s/f was succesful, so with only 2 to go I lost my podium place.
All above this I ran out of fuel in the last lap. I was lucky enough that Frank was 400-500 meters behind so I could hit the magic keys for an all new car.
And I had my pockets still full of LUCK as Alex and Lorenzo had problems in the last sector so I could regain 3rd and finish on the podium.
It was a great race with lots of action. I loved to see such a great grid - though still missing a few names.
I wonder what happened to Gabor at the start. And don't know if the discoes were retirements or network problems.
Congrats to the Barresis, to Gabor on pole lap, to Lore on FL in the Cooper! And Frank for such a memorable debut race!
Thanks all for coming!
Dammit. Apologies to, I think, Gabor. Never saw him at all as I tried to return to the track after a Shift-R. Can't put into words how upset and angry I am at myself for that. Sorry.
Second time this week I've ruined a front-runner's race because I wasn't concentrating having gone badly myself. I need to get a ban or something.
Decided to leave after I caused too many accidents, I also crashed too much to call it a race. Will do much better on Spa! James, that was nice racing, sad I lost you after one of my mega crashes.
Marco de Vries
Hmmm. Not one of my best races. My start was bad, but because of the crash I was 7th after the first lap and held people up. Because of al the disco's I finished 8th.
Quite unlucky race. First trying to join the server I've been “timed out“ again and again since 3 minutes to qualy end, when finally got in, so I could try just the warm up lap and a “good“ one.
In the race I had several nice battles with a ferrari driver (sry, gotta watch the replay to name him) then a lotus one (sry again), then had a huge shunt with a car rejoining the track. That upsetted my Cooper wich went quite strange...in fact I think I had quite good luck to be able to go on. While trying to get acquainted with the “new“ setup, I could catch again third place (nice fight again with same lotus driver and Jani), and into last lap was closing the second place (no chance for any further improvement yet) when the pilot ahead spun and could not avoid him. I came to a stop on the grass after a fast blind turn and considered too dangerous to rejoin the track there, guessing Jani and others were coming, plus my car was perhaps too badly shattered, and didn't know how it could have reacted leaving the grass into the tarmac, so I retired.
A question: anyone here has Logitech g25? My shifter started right today to drop second and fourth gear. It goes suddenly in neutral (gear-in yet in my G25, but onboard it shows the stick shifting into neutral) for some seconds (no traction all of a sudden, what made me spin in the race coming out Tarzan while following Jani) then back on-gear. As I drive with shifter, clutch and right foot braking, what do you think I should check (and how): clutch pedal, shifter stick or maybe software? Similar experiences anyone? Hints?
Thank you in advance.
Last week I installed GPL on my computer after what must be at least 5 years of not driving it.
Found this league thanks to Timo Vermeersch who raced here in the past.
Pretty happy with my Q pace. About 1sec slower than what I could do back in 2004 so I am happy with that.
The race went even better. Sixth on the grid but started 3rd as someone didn't get off the line.
After this I had Jani Posta, Lorenzo Melli and Pedro vd Bergh right in my gearbox. After a while Pedro spun out or something. And after 10 laps or something Jani finally managed to get past. Lorenzo Melli was a little harder to keep behind, he quickly got past me, and when he spun he quickly repassed me again.
In the last lap climbed up to 4th due to DNF of Lorenzo.
@Lorenzo : Lotus was me, Ferrari was Pedro.
That returning Lotus was me. Sorry! Completely forgot to look at pribluda if someone was coming up
Lorenzo, please stay on the Cooper team all season. Your car is amazing. :). Everyone else, please join Team BRM for the remainder of the season.
Seriously, everyone is amazingly fast. I was turning my best race times ever at Zandy and I still got smoked. Albeit the start was a bit rough as I lost a lot of ground but I enjoyed chasing Pedro the latter part of the event. Well Done All. Spa Humbug.
Pedro van den Berg
That was fun again!
Thanks Jani for filling the grid with somany drivers!
I must say again I dont prefere the 67 cars on the original track's, but this proves i am wrong.
Great race following Jani, Frank and changing places with Lorenzo!
I run one wheel on the gras passing Jani before Tarzan and slipped out :(
A bit further I do it again in Hugenholts and rejoining the track I hit Gabor ............ who sayd sorry about something similar doing that to Gabor (James) I am sorry to Gabor.
I hope it wasn't because of this you left the game??
AT the end I had to gear up again because William was getting bigger and bigger in the mirrors, well done Will!
I was a bit disappointed to run out of fuel four laps from the end and pulled into the pits. I was suffering from really bad cramp in my legs so I thought I'd try and get rid of it but by the time I did GPL had booted me out before I could reset.
@ Arjen: Lotus? It looked as an Eagle to me...
@ William: it's ok, me on Cooper and everyone else on Brm sounds sweet to my ears :)
Frank Pedro and Jani, thanks again for the fun
CY in Spa hopefully
It was an Eagle, sorry.....sometimes my brain goes in wtf mode
Qualified in 9th way off my PB. I was unsited at the start and suddenly found Gabor still on his grid slot. Tried to avoid him but failed. Beno got involved as well I thnik. I was following Roo and Arjen when Arjen got it sideways through Tunnel Oost and Roo had nowhere to go. I went through the gap with Gabor right behind me. Gabor outbraked me into Tazan on Lap 2 but also outbraked himself and ran wide up the bank and I nipped through again. Nearly caught up with the pack on Lap 3 but Marco's engine blew going down the hill into Zijn Veld and he ran wide up the bank and back across the track. James couldn't avoid him and T boned him. I ran wide off line trying to avoid them and Gabor nipped through and quickly disappeard up the road. He caught Sid but Sid wasn't making it easy for him and I slowly closed the gap and was right with them half way round Lap 5. Then my phone went, and as my wife was in Hospital about to have an operation, I had to answer it. Nothing important but I lost 22 seconds. Got going again was catching Marco when he ran wide at Scheivlak and I was through and slowly catching Sid. Then I lost the tail going through then Right hander onto the back straight and spun. Got going again but lost it again and hit the fence. Decided this was not going well, enough was enough and quit.
Guys, for the last time... the right corner names:
at the end of the straight it's right into the Tarzanbocht
then a left kink and a righthander, the Gerlachbocht
sharp lefthander: Hugenholzbocht
over the crest, the crest itself is called Hunserug, don't know if the corner has a name as well
left/right at Jan de Wijker zijn veld, which means Jan de Wijker his field, as it was Jan de Wijkers garden before the track was created. Currently called Slotemakerbocht after Rob Slotemaker
then you brake for Scheivlak which goes right...
then left/right at Hondevlak, the chicane later was called Marlborobocht
a righthand kink called Tunnel Oost, the eastern tunnel to the infield runs under this kink. You can see it behind the armco. Note that many names at Zandvoort aren't corner names, but the names of the areas where the corners go through.
Then it gets confusing. You go right and then right. This corner combination is called Bos In (forest in) because until the sixties there was a little forest here. Later when both kinks were tightened it was called Panoramabocht.
Then the righthander to the finish is called Bos Uit (forest out) because..you leave the forest here. The Pulleveld as GPL calls it is just a grassfield in the dunes near this corner, veld means field
This also goes with Huzarenvlak, it is the name of the area and not the corner, if there is any
http://www.circuitsofthepast.nl/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=1742&fullsize=1 a map of the old track without the corner names. You see that almost every corner is named after an area. The 1939 street circuit is also on the map! start on the Van Lennepweg
Many thanks Arjen for Zandvoort (Zand stands for Sand I guess but what about Voort?) track history.
Zandy is one of my favourite tracks, and I believe one among the few where the true champions could showcase their skills. It's surely for something the winners throu the years have been such drivers as Fangio, Ascari, G. Hill, Clark, Stewart, Lauda, Piquet, Prost... try to sum up the World Championships they won, quite an amount.
Too bad they killed the old track.
Is your second name Friezes? And is Zandvoort in Fryslan? I know Fryslan extends throu northern Nederland, north-west German coasts and west Danish coasts... do you still use a common Frisian? Sry for the OT
Edit to add a link: http://www.gdecarli.it/php/circuit.php?var1=2467&var2=1
completely correct Lorenzo, Zand is sand.
Try Assen instead :P
Yes I'm a proud Frisian and so is Marco. We talk Frisian together, it's my first language. Only Dutch when I really have too haha. So never say Holland, which s just the land around Amsterdam, it's The Netherlands, plural, and Fryslân is one of those 'low countries'
Marco de Vries
Too bad Zandvoort is in Holland haha
correct. The name is deriverd from Zand (sand) and Voorde, which means a place between the dunes where you can reach the beach here.
The historic Frisia extends from Zeeland in the Netherlands until southern Denmark, 'our' Fryslan is just the province of Friesland, which is in the northern part of the Netherlands.
