Track: Bremgarten Mod: 1965 FPS: 60 Number of racers: 8
Iestyn Davies won Bremgarten “Jack Brabham Memorial Race” race of Groundhog 1965 season | May 22, 2014
Starting from position 4 on the grid, Iestyn Davies's BRM P261 crossed the line ahead of Robert Fleurke's BRM P261 to take the win. Gabor Olah rounded out the top three in a Honda RA272, while fastest race lap was set by Iestyn Davies also.
A wonderful track with some really fast forest roads. This will be the first time for me here with a 65 car. I expect some flat out fun :)
This event will be a Jack Brabham Memorial Race...
A living legend has passed away, RIP.
Just did a first testing session, in the BRM and uploaded the setup I have so far in quali trim. It's a typical fast track setup, high tirepressures for straight line speed in combination with a 30/85/1 diff seems to work well in 65 mod. The racesetup has yet to be finetuned, but won't differ too much I reckon.
Best lap 2m13.44s on low fuel so far.
2:13 is pretty good. I expect to go down to 2:16, 2:15 maybe. Pole will be somewhere in the 12s.
2:13, 2:14... looks like I have some work to do!
Honda, low 18's :(
Roo, my setup is bill bremgarten 15l.mu1, from here:
- brake 53 --> 51
- 6th ratio 25/33 5.940:1 --> 21/28 6.000:1
First time I drive the BRM, but I like it :) Have improved a bit more, broke into the 12's in quali trim and 13's in racetrim. Uploaded final setups.
Best of luck to you guys tomorrow. RIP Jack Brabham, never saw him race, but true legend of the sport. Sad to hear the news.
I have downloaded that as its the only 65 setup available for Bremgarten & hence my choice of chassis ;)
However when I first looked at it in the setup manager, 6th gear looked strangely long so I picked up my spa setup & fiddled with that instead.
Now I see my 6th gear looks equally odd :D
What does the vertical red line in setup manager's gear graph mean anyway?
I don't know, I don't use Setup Manager.
Please note, race length was changed to 16 laps.
Roo, the red line in GPLSM is just help setting up the final gear, representing potential topspeed for that car. The red dots represent the red line in your tacho meter...
The graphs in GPLSM are very helpful to determine the right gearings, combined with the ideal shifting point (max torque/horsepower) for a specific car.
Jani, thanks, was thinking it would be a short race. ;)
PS: have updated my racesetup with the right fuel amount for 16 laps.
I figured it was the top speed but it doesn't seem quite right with respect to 6th gear in the honda.
Anyway, happy enough with my gears so we'll see how the race goes.
Quali was a bit messy, probs joining, and blowing an engine, but still good enough for pole..
Start was difficult on cold tires, and had a string of cars following me, until I notched the wall, and decided to stay safe and check the car first, allowing 4 cars through...
Then Roo, who had a bad connection, hit the wall and warped in front of me, took it easy and was able to go through, and Roo sadly discoed a bit later I think...
Michi and Gabor came together in the final hairpin and michi seemed to be waiting for Gabor, so I did set my sights on
But much to my surprise, or rather not knowing Iestyn, he drove away frome me, whatever I did. Too bad I did make a half spin losing 5s, but most laps were driven pretty hard, with a little mistake here and there...
Iestyn spun in the last lap pushing for a 11, but just had enough to take the win...awesome pace Iestyn, you must have had a good setup! :P
Thanks for racing all :)
It looked okay, then it still looked okay, then all went wrong, I made a bunch of mistakes, and had to use up all my resets... I also had a few really good laps, but finally it turned to be a rather poor event.
Congrats to the winner and all finishers!
What happened Roo?
Started 3rd lost one spot on the start. That was always going to happen as my 1st was too long. Made up a spot on through the forest and was set to reel in Gabors Honda when I saw that we had 15 laps to go and I only had 14 laps worth of fuel with me.
I went for another lap to check if I'd seen right and decided to pit early so I'd be light at the end of the race.
Gabor was having trouble going into the hairpin and I ran into his tyre and spun him around. Sorry about that. I would have let him by again but Robert was close behind.
Anyway I hit the pits that lap and from there on I was alone. I tried to close the gap to the guys in front but after a spin and another loss of time I tried to bring it home safely.
I like this track. I used to live close by so it brings back fond memories.
Had trouble connecting initially but finally got on.
Managed a surprise pb in quali & felt good for the race. Got an ok start & managed to pass Robert in the forest but clipped something & spun into a barrier on the next lap so Robert re-passed me.
Shortly after the screen froze yet again :(
From my end my connection looked ok (don't have the meters on) but as Robert said I had a bad connection, I guess I did.
I think my problem is 2 fold:
1: I live in a small village with antiquated phone lines & so a shite internet speed & bandwidth ~250MB
2: I run a gîte (holiday rental accommodation) so when my customers stream videos etc, which many do as they are climbers & like to watch videos of other people climbing the things they want to try so they have an idea how to do it, they basically take all my bandwidth.
I will try to run a cable from the modem to my pc (2 different buildings) to eliminate any possible problems with the wi-fi connection I currently use. But that won't stop the thieving ;)
Hopefully things will be ok for Norisring.
Grats to all finishers, good to see Sid back :)
This was my great comeback after four months away from GPL, and I can't believe how slow I was. I'm sure I could have walked faster, and I can't walk very fast anymore :)
Anyway I had to find out if I could still do it after my little adventure earlier this year, and I have to say I found it quite difficult. My main problem was keeping concentration, I kept finding that my mind was wandering off thinking of things other than staying on track. The other problem, and I think this was due to the closeness of the scenery, was that I kept getting dizzy. It was this that finally forced me to give up. With about 5 or 6 laps to go I had to park the car and get up and walk around the room a few times. This seemed to cure the dizzy feeling, but unfortunately GPL doesn't like parked cars and it chucked me out just as I got back in the drivers seat.
Still at least I gave it a go, maybe next time will be better, and it felt good to be back.
I agree, the scenery when in the forest is pretty crazy on the eyes until you know where the track is going & even then it takes some focus to see your way through.
Norisring should be easier for you from that point of view.
Hope to see you there & that your recovery continues :)
Roo, it could be my connection as well. I noticed in server replay you looked better than on my local replay. Anyway, tough luck, Roo, and I hope it gets better ;)
Sid, I think you just need some time to get back up to speed, just lapping tracks will give you back your focus and “endurance“. It's great to see you back after your heartattack, and I hope you feel well!
Pedro van den Berg
Congratulations Iestyn, Robert and Gabor!
Shocking to see you guys drive so fast here ;)
I could not follow Jani without making mistakes.
To bad I lost the connection because the rest of the race was lonely.
Good to see you back on track Sid!
Thanks for racing and hosting, cu next time.
Pedro, I watched the replay this morning. Sorry for taking that corner at such low speed... Only later in the race I realized that at a few places I could use higher gear and manage more speed.
Pedro van den Berg
Thanks for apologising Jani, but thats not needed!!
It could have been a Michael Schumacher move ;)
You lead, I follow or overtake thats the principle.
