Iestyn Davies won Clermont–Ferrand “Beltoise Memorial Race” race of Groundhog F2 season | Jan 22, 2015
Starting from position 1 on the grid, Iestyn Davies's Matra MS5 crossed the line ahead of Carlos Cendejas's Matra MS5 to take the win. Roo Mellor rounded out the top three in a Matra MS5, while fastest race lap was set by Iestyn Davies also.
Charade or Clermont-Ferrand? Please tell which you prefer! I close this voting on Sunday evening.
i think clermont is more accurate than charade?
so that would be my choice.
Clermont of course
My hard drive has been replaced and I'm up and running again, in time for another long track where I can hopefully keep out of everyone's way.
Which track do you prefer Sid? Charade or Clermont-Ferrand?
Clermont, Jani, every time.
can we choose either of the matra or one particular?
Free choice of Matras.
This is one of my never real understood tracks...
I will try to join if I am fit enough.
Screenfreezes come out in force lately here. Not the first one at Clermont either...
What a shame, realistically didn't have the pace for Iestyn, but at least I tried...
Hope you had a good one ;)
R.I.P. J-P Beltoise
One of my personal favorites in GPL
Had a nice qualifying at a predicted position. Start was catasrophic when Roo spun and I got caught, collecting Jani along. After that I stupidly lost control and hit Pedro at the end of a lap which gave me traumatic memories of last years at the same circuit D:
After another incident that was it for the major incidents and with a few minor spins I still got a nice drive.
Very happy to go from a poor track and result to a great track and result
Zero training is never a good omen. I re-learned the track in practice and set up the car to my liking.
I had a good start but was unlucky in T2 and crashed into Roo's stationary car. A few turns later I had to stop for a reset.
The next few laps were okay but then I left the track and crashed hard on a banking.. That was another reset and the end of my podium dreams.
In the remaining laps I could drive a solid race and hold Pedro in safe distance.
Clermont is a great track, it's never boring even if you are driving alone.
Congrats to the winner! Thanks all for the race.
Happy to get into the 13's in quali & the start was good & clean but I had to go wide to avoid hitting Robert in T2.
After that I over drove the car for a few laps which didn't help my race until I chilled out & just drove 'a test session'.
Had some fun with Jani & finally caught Carlos towards the end. Carlos was warping quite a bit & when I went for the inside at Virage de la ferme he either turned in or warped into me ending my chances of gaining another position. Shame.
Grats to Iestyn for a super fast performance & all others for sticking it out :)
Thought something like that happened Roo, I just was normally cautious for T2 being afraid to go off as it tightens...but always lifted off between the 2 brakemarkers, also on hot tires. Often the groove is a marker for me as well...left space in T1 not sure where you were...
Still bummed having these screenfreezes lately, not sure if it's the tracks or my system...hopefully at Keimola a troublefree race ;)
Grats Iesty, great pace, and podium!
not your fault Robert. I backed off early anyway (may have coincidentally been exactly when you did) but was still too close & maybe would have been carrying too much speed even if the track was empty ;)
one of my typical errors tbh :D
Worst laps 7,8,9. I crashed at Le Petit Pont on lap 7, fortunately i just bounce back to track. and then the next tree laps, i did a lots of mistakes. By lap 9 I had Roo right behind me and just like he wrote, at Virage de la ferme i did my move thinking we were going to touch, but some how we didnt and i came out clear. Then my fastest lap was the 10th lap. I did a 1:16:-- lap practicing the night before the race but, i still get very anxios and nervous when i race online and i think i become less aggressive. i think this league is very competitive, so even though i been very lucky in my last two races, i have to force my self to be more aggressive if i pretend to win a race. And you were right. its a better track Clermont than Charade. i ve never race them before and i liked Clermont better. Congrats to all and sorry for my late respond. :)
I'm not sure if aggression is the best way to win races - except its against the apexes :)
Finally I could start from pole position in a groundhog race! Just a shame that it was a tenth of a second off the WR! :P
I pushed hard in the opening lap, to try and open a gap to Rob, and once he was gone (lonely race) I started easing off to save fuel. After another attempt at a fast lap or two I then eased off to be spluttering just as I neared the line :).
Would have been interesting if Rob was still behind me when I started spluttering! A shame for the L1/T2 off, but it looks like it set up a fun race behind :). 3, 2, 1? for Carlos :D.
I dont meant to be aggressive like trying to hit everybody out of my way, its more like braking a little bit later and punch it a little bit earlier lap by lap. No aggression of course. :)
OK, that's positive aggression ;)
