Axel Cookie won Monza “Fun Race” race of Festival Events | Nov 09, 2015
Starting from position 1 on the grid, Axel Cookie's Lotus 49 crossed the line ahead of Roo Mellor's Lotus 49 to take the win. Robert Fleurke rounded out the top three in a Honda RA300, while fastest race lap was set by Roo Mellor also.
if the choice is mine, you know what I would choose ;)
i'm happy to have your suggestions as to my steed for the day :D
Monza. Ferrari. Your weapons?
Was also planning Ferrari TBH, but maybe another slower car...
my first race was with gbgpl at mosport. i drove the 49 there.
i will sign out as i signed in ;-)
For me the Lotus will be my farewell to GH tonight.
I drive it very seldom and have little experience with it, I hope it will last...
Ferrari for me as usual.
Ferrari. My first ever online race was with Groundhog in late 2013. It's sad to see it go.
Be careful overrevving the DFV when downshifting Axel. It took me a long time to realize that's why I was trashing so many DFVs.
I'll take the Honda or BRM...
Thx Greg for the advice, I tiptoed around with extra carefull downshifts ;-D
Allways under pressure from Roo who came closer with any little brakefade of me...
Laptimes differed in 100th of seconds.
The fast guys should not have taken such heavy metal as handycaps, as this track makes not such big differences.
Had a compromised racesetup, to allow to get the Honda to the finish, but it was a bit too much. Better had set shorter gearings and shifted slightly earlier then.
Now I simply lost too much acceleration and topspeed, and couldn't hold of the Ferrari's of Greg and Andy. Was fun first half part of the race but also frustrating...
Inherited podium when Greg spun in front of Andy and me. It collected Andy, and I just could avoid both cars...close one...
Rest of the race Andreas came closer, but he ran out of laps...
Happy with a PR in quali, my driving was OK but my laptimes weren't good enough in the race...something for next time in the Honda here...
Grats Axel and Roo, and well done finishers! :) Bad luck for Andy who could have gotten podium here ;) Thanks all for racing!
Thanks Jani for Groundhog, was always fun racing here, and we keep in touch! :)
Keep the web-site going Jani. Maybe Groundhog can come back some day or stage the odd fun race now & again.
Enjoyed blasting the Eagle around Monza. Too many fast drivers out there, best I could do was capitalise on other drivers mistakes.
before the race I had been thinking that I would slowly drop back through the field & race with each of you for a little but then I got on the grid & sadly went into auto race mode when the flag dropped. opportunity missed :(
Axel & I were too closely matched in our Lotuses. Barring a (big) mistake from Axel it was going to take lots of pb's to catch & overtake.
It was a fun race nonetheless but I regret not having enjoyed all your company one last time.
Many thanks again for all your efforts running this league of gentlemen, Jani. I hope our racing careers cross again soon.
Cheers all, it has been lots of fun :)
Since I had only a few hours with the G27 I still not feel enough confidency in the car. So qual was not perfect, I was off from my PB, and the race was a thriller sometimes :)
I had an okay start, but while Carlos went sideways and dropped back, Andreas jumped ahead. And there was my challenge: to beat a Lotus in a Ferrari :) Which lasted for 13-14 laps with lots of close action. Sadly my last overtaking attempt ended in tears. I missed my brake point to Parabolica and went off into the sands...
Later I repeated this move (alone that time), and my front left suspension must have been hit as I had to stop for a reset in the next lap...
This way I was way down in the running order, but still finished in lead lap. And it was a fun race and I really enjoyed it from start to finish.
It was a fantastic farewell. Congrats to Axel and podium finishers. Thanks all for coming.

How fitting that in the last race I should come...last.
There was no way I could even keep up with anyone, so I decided to drive around at the back on my own, admiring the scenery.
My thoughts kept going back to some of the memorable characters that made up GBGPL/Groundhogs. I must say that in the main I couldn't have wished for better company in my journey through online racing. A very enjoyable ten years, thank you all and goodbye.
