<insert usual blurb here>
T2 was fun. A Snetterton-esque pile up ahead and I stood on the brakes and just, just, scraped through as everyone parted like the red (heh) sea.
Anyway, I guess I've proven that in my current situation it's impossible to race. I've done everything I can think of short of having a leg transplant. It's just not working. So until I get this fixed I'm done. I'll be back, so no wringing of hands. But right now I'm doing nothing but having a miserable time and getting in everyones way.
So until next time...
Really terrible race. Since I was last anyway (only car in the 1.24s) and don't like Mosport particularly, the strategy was to just get to the finish.
Dr Phil: "And how was that working for you?"
Not very well to say the least. First there was some crash in T2 and I got involved in that. Then I had a so-so rest of lap 1 and was running about 14th on lap 2 there was another stop by the back hairpin, got caught up in that as well. Finally, I got going down the back straight when I suddenly hit someone from behind, Hamilton-style. If there's one thing I do not like, it's rear-ending people, ze only punishment possible after being involved in three incidents was to press ESC.
Although in my defence I don't think the first two crashes were really avoidable since the road was suddenly full of stationary cars.
Sounds like an excuse.
Apologies to whoever got rear-ended. I think it may have been Colm but I'm not sure, I will have to look at the replay.
Well, the only way is up.
Unfortunately, Magnus, I think I take full responsibility for both of the Lap1/2 crashes I thought I gave Will enough room after T1, but obviously didn't & then I lost it into the hairpin & collected Colm & others Maybe I should get a 10 place penalty for the next round ... oh wait, I'm going to miss it anyway
Apart from Will still finishing ahead of me, which is some consolation, I'm really disappointed to have ruined so many people's races & feel I don't deserve the points.
Hmm.. it's very rare that I have such a bad race, but this was definately one of them. Qualy was okay, I was 2 tenths close to my pb and p5 on the grid looked promising. Then there were crashes and shift-rs and finally (by lap 4) I had enough...
Quite happy with the result here. Mosport is definitely one of my favourite tracks but I thought I should save the stronger cars for bigger challenges. Seeing Gez in Lotus, Will in Brabham and Gyula in a Ferrari, podium looked like a good target.
Quali was good, set my PB which was good for third on the grid. Will in second was a bit dodgy getting off the line so I passed him on the outside in T1 and followed Gez. G went wide on a downhill approach to Moss and I was now in the lead - lucky bastard I thought. There was a substantial gap to second placed driver but I didn't want to push and make a mistake (which is easy to do here) and had a pace of my own, intent on keeping it on the road. I noticed Gez was catching up and I knew the only person who could stop Gez was Gez him self .
Lap 13, he slipstreamed down the back straight and it seemed futile risking sending us both off the road so I didn't put too much of a fight, thinking of the consistant Gyula still within a striking distance. Gez didn't pull away immediatelly and he was making plenty of small mistakes (one that nearly cost him the lead at Moss) but then found some speed in the last couple of laps and built a sufficient gap and brought it home in first.
Mission accomplished, two Coopers used, lots of points in the bag and there are so many good circuits coming up. Looking forward to the rest of season. Congratulations to Gez for a very good drive and Gyula for an excellent consistency.
Roo, I believe Gez was robbed of a point for fastest lap so if you could please correct that
