What a race...I though it might be good given the qually times, but that is quite possibly, the best race I have ever finished last in.....
and Kruger and Gyula...
Awesome stuff - great first race
Mixed feelings here. I had no training sessions before the event so my qualy was a bit poor. And as my grid position carried a few danger in itself I was a bit worried before the start.
Got the flag well but a few meters later (between T1 and T2) I also got a hit from behind... That put me somewhere to the end of the field, but a few other cars were also on the grass so at the end of the 1st lap I was 14th again.
Then I was chasing Leffa and tried Dan to hold behind. Later I got Will and Bosse ahead of me and we had a close run till the finish. In last lap we were lucky enough to pass Andy who was sitting at the 'Hairpin Rubbers' café. And Bosse was also kind to spin off ahead of me in the very last corner.
P5 for me finally. That's way better what I expected, but might have been even better if...
But not ifs : ) Thanks all for racing this evening, grats to winner and podium, see you all at Mosport.
What a Race tonight! It was the best of my few races in Britain.
Quali was interesting: I made an average lap early, was in P5, was enough. But started to drop and I was somewhere P14-15 when 5 minutes was left. Made 2 hotlaps and take the 2nd place. Smiley
Start went fine, kept the 2nd place, but soon Gez lost the lead and I took it for 3-4 laps. Made a small mistake, Kruger took the lead. In the whole race I tried to catch him, but was quick int the Cooper. It was really exciting, we were in 2-3 secs close all the time. At the and, I thought he was waiting for me, but he ran out of fuel, LOL.
The gap was 0.1 sec.
Thank You Kruger, and others too.
Well, that was an unexpected win. I hate racing Rouen, don't mind driving quali laps but racing it is always on edge. This was fourth Rouen race within last two months and first three ended in the ditch, polos or the pesky fence at the corner, translation of which is "sawmill"!!! The lack of any brake marker always gets me there...
Naturally, I've set my mind to damage limitation and didn't want to waste a good Brabham or Fez as Cooper mows the grass just fine Smiley
Third on the grid, I was to settle to whichever position after seeing so many good drivers in fast cars. That was a nice lap and a Cooper PB but I have driven a great one for a low 57 lap but ran out of fuel (good omen for the race Smiley )
After Gez went straight on into the polos at Nouveau Monde, Gyula and I were through. We were evenly matched and I wasn't about to even attempt any overtaking, second was good and third was some time behind. Gyula then made a mistake coming out of a nameless corner just after the hairpin, lost the speed and I was through. It was pretty much even-steven from there on, he was getting first and fourth sectors right but I always ran away in second and third which meant he was always too far down the back straight.
Though I fuelled for 21 laps, starting last lap, fuel pressure was at 250 and I knew it wasn't enough. Luckily for me, Gyula made a mistake coming out of scierie on lap 17 so I generated a suifficient gap to drive the final lap with as little throttle possible, to save the fuel for the back straight. Sure enough, it started spluttering just after Scierie and I managed to drag it accross the line but only just. That was really a great and fun race but tough as hell.
I drove a solid race but Gyula was just outstanding, well done mate
Grats to Ivan also
Seriously considering retiring from competitive GPL. It's no fun for me getting screaming agony after 2 or three laps, and with the way my driving becomes as my leg goes numb and wont respond at all, no fun for anyone else either.
Sorry to those at the tight left before the run of right-handers out onto the back straight for reversing slightly onto the track. Sorry to Jani for giving him a tap up the back.
So I'll happily sit out and just moderate as needed. Almost zero point in getting behind the wheel anymore just to be in pain and bugger others race up.
it doesnt happen often these days that i finish the race without any offs or incidents. yesterday surprisingly managed to go slow enough and did it Smiley
also tried to be very careful in traffic, which paid off since all the traffic around me eliminated themselves eventually. sorry if i contributed to gez going off at gresil, but i dont feel i was doing anything nasty there
and most important, twas nice to race with full grid and with people who drive sensibly. really enjoyed close racing in the 1st part of the race. grats all, and particularly kruger and gyula.
Having nearly a full grid last night was awesome. I hope it continues. Qually was super fun. (Having sorted my kids bus problem out by just leaving the front door open:) Was in 10th but managed to improve on my last effort by only .5 and that was enough to put me up to 5th.
While VB battled the cramps, I battled the shakes. Green flag, Bo is gone and Ivan and Andrew are very close. Got my gears all mixed up and was bogging down in 5th heading in to T2. Finally found 3rd and made it down to Nouveau Monde without killing anyone. Andrew had no problem passing down the straight and I had to brake hard for an off car at Scierie, which gave Ivan an open hole.
Now there were 4 Fezzas (Me, Daan, Jani, Clom) all in a row starting L2. We were all grooving along fine until I see a flagman waving the yellow at Sanson. VB was blowing bits of hay out of his nose as the mass of Fez's approached. I slowed just enough to give Daan a bit of light up the inside of one of those nasty turns that follows Sanson and he went for it but I didn't see him at all...and the party of Fez's was over in an instant. Very sorry to all involved.
Down to 10th, I just plugged away and chased Natan and Clom for a good bit but eventually got by after someone got stuck in the polos creating a log-jam that I miraculously got through. Bosse was very unfortunate here as he got caught. Now Bo was chasing me with about 9 to go and I thought it'd be just a mater of time before his Honda would get by. Also I had to smile as he was driving my custom black and gold Honda with a Grateful Dead decal on the nose that I'd forgot was still in my 67 car folder. Grin
This certainly helped take off a bit of pressure.
So the laps start ticking off and Bossemon is still 1-2 secs behind so now I'm thinking I have a shot at 5th if I can just keep it steady. Last lap, just hang on, then all of a sudden, I see Andrew who was 18 seconds ahead. He'd just recovered and was making his way down to the HP when he just disappeared. He was gone so long I thought for sure he'd dicoed but he reappeared at the HP and was spinning near the polos, gifting me 4th.
As I made my way home, I thought for sure this was when Bo was going to make his move. I was able to just hang on and snake 4th. Very lucky race for me. Great fun. Full grid was epic.
Firstly sorry for the delays with updating Weekly with D2 results & replays. I've had some major pc issues recently which has resulted in my, finally, ordering a new pc , but it meant I couldn't start the beast before I had to visit the taxman amongst other appointments
So to my race rofl
I managed to squeeze myself into my chair with my freshly operated left knee firmly bandaged, with a very black cloud looming on the horizon & set about qualifying in the car of choice. Sadly my setup was a nightmare so I made some changes just before the start, hoping to at least be able to keep it on the track.
I snuck past the T2 incident & was up to 11th on L2 when I got caught in the Ferrari accordion, sending me to the back. I then had DC & Wiggy behind for a few laps, all of us making mistakes & changing places a couple of times.
By this point the black clouds had begun to unload their enormous amount of rain & the sky was being light up by lightning so often it felt like I was in a hammer house of horror movie Hammer
Now to the book of excuses ...
Due to the rain one of the cats came in & jumped on my lap. I could just about deal with that, even if he was soaking wet, but then he went & sat on the mute button on the keyboard. I managed to get sound back just as he stood infront of the screen & I crashed down the back straight. Then there was a huge lightning strike & I got disco'd big time
Fortunately I had completed more than two thirds race distance at this point so I still scored some points which considering I wasn't going to race at all, & I set a new pb Grin, is quite a result
Grats to the podium & the flying D2B'ers
